The Rule of Four

One of the books I've read lately was called "The Rule of Four" by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason. One of the reviews said "The Da Vinci Code for people who can think", but either I cant think or I just don't see that big a connection. The book was good, it's not that, it's just that it isn't about the church in the same way, or any other big institution. The story is about a two student at Princeton who manage to crack the code behind a book that's baffled scholars for nearly 500 years. The book is real I believe, but I don't think anyone has found what these two guys find. Where there might be some similarities with The Da Vinci Code, is that the book reveals some truths about a period of the renaissance where the church (well at least a priest sent to Napoli by the church) tries to destroy every painting, book and other artifact produced by the humanists/scholars. But even if unraveling the secret of the book is the main storyline, I would guess it doesn't take up more than a third of the book. The other two thirds are more to do with friendship, love and finding one self than working on some big secret. The book is definitely worth reading, but not because it's "The Da Vinci Code for people who can think" but simply because it's a good story.
